Why I Love Lebanon?

 A word from the heart to our fellow Lebanese Expats

 

I had the honor to deliver a session on Social Media and the art of using it to promote positivity taking the example of the hashtag I started in 2012 #Ilovelebanonbecause , 

this session was delivered to the distinguished lebanese expats from 25 countries participating at the Maronite Academy for this summer of 2018. 

I hereby share with them few words from the heart. 

 

I had a chance 10 years ago to leave Lebanon for a better job opportunity abroad.

Every time I had the idea of leaving, I remembered my grandma who used to cry when she wanted to see her 4 children who left Lebanon because of the war.

We are at peace… why should we surrender and choose the easy way out?

I always say that staying in Lebanon is an act of resistance. Staying here and being productive and proactive gives your life a meaning and a goal.

Staying here makes you feel proud because we have so much to be proud of… not what you see in the news…

God gave us the Cedars of Lebanon / He Gave us Geita Grotto / the Valley of saints / the Mountains of Sannine and the Amazing fertile lands of the bekaa and south.

 He gave us open seas and snow and 4 seasons.

Do not underestimate our beautiful weather and 300 days of SUN!

Our weather is moderate and so should be our political system. We should always live by mutual acceptance and understanding.

The bad politicians we have should not discourage us. The bad waste crisis should not make us surrender… the refugees crisis should never affect the country’s demographics … because all these problems are temporary and will soon be over…

What remains is the Cedar. Saint Charbel. Our Lady of Lebanon and Every Family struggling to make a living in this Country.

We have to fight for our Lebanon. We have to tell the world what it means to be a Lebanese and what it takes to rebuild a country from ashes every time and after every war.

We have to learn that Lebanese people / when left alone without any foreign interference / can do miracles. And I believe that every one of you (Our Expats) is a miracle / a disciple who will spread the Lebanese Culture and Heritage of 6000 years to the world and most importantly return one day to the land of our ancestors.

When Facebook Hides your Posts...

A #Fact !

I have 5000 friends + 2000 and more followers that’s 7000+ people who can see my posts on #Facebook. YET ! Over the last two years I do not remember any post making more than 300 likes / or even reaching 10% of the people.
This is called #ALGORITHM.

Facebook decided after 2012 that they should decide what to show and what to hide from People’s #Timeline based on what “they” think better suits them.
On the other hand / #Twitter that also has its own algorithm is still better performing and “the go to” platform if you wish to write / express / exchange ideas.
Where does this take us to ?
Either facebook must bring back our friends or we should go out and reach them elsewhere.
And the best place would be : REAL LIFE.

On social media future trends...

I was asked about the next TWO big trends in Social Media in the coming few years... here are my answers :

Q1. From your own experience, name top 2 social media marketing trends brands should focus-on in 2018?

The Top Two Trends in the social media marketing are :

A- Video-Graph: People do not read long text anymore; you need to deliver your essence in a short video with text on image. Make your videos short ( less than a minute ) , attractive and spread them on all your social media accounts.

B- Social Media used as Customer Service:

More and more companies are using social media in customer relations and services and this is an efficient / fast and modern way to provide quick feedback to customers. You can start developing Message BOTS (robots ) able to provide this service with modern AI (artificial intelligence) in order to simulate a human-like conversation.

Q2. What do you predict for the future of social media?

I consider social media is here to stay, however I predict more problems when it comes to security and user-privacy.

We are living in an exposed world and there is a need to protect oneself by taking care of our online security.

I predict developed social media services with Augmented Reality tools and applications and I also foresee a drop in Facebook users due to privacy problems.

انتخابات 2018 : بين الصدمة "النسبية" و"الأكثرية" التي بقيت صامتة

سنبقى نتذكر السابع من أيار 2018 يوم استفاق اللبنانيون على صباح داكن، مظلم وقاتم شاءت فيه الطبيعة أن تواكب الحدث فعكسته بأبهى صورة.  انتهت الانتخابات لتبدأ معها مرحلة جديدة من عمر البلاد. 

انتهت الانتخابات وحان الوقت لوداع هذا القانون والرقص على جثّته... قانون "نسبي" في الشكل "أكثري" في الباطن والمضمون... فرز الناس مللاً مللاً وقسّم العائلات الواحدة وجعل أعضاء الحزب الواحد واللائحة الواحدة يتنافسون... لا بل يتقاتلون ويتناتشون لنيل الصوت التفضيلي الذي رفع من قيمة الصوت الانتخابي في بورصة شراء الاصوات الانتخابية. 

لم يشبه هذا القانون في أي لحظة من اللحظات النظام اللبناني والتركيبة والعقلية اللبنانية. فالنظام النسبي مع اللوائح المعدّة سلفاً والمقفلة هو أكثر رواجاً في الدول الغربية حيث تتنافس الأحزاب في ما بينها للوصول الى السلطة. الأحزاب التي تكون من لون واحد ولها هدف واحد وسياسة واحدة وواضحة. فلا يعود للفرد أو للمرشح الحزبي قيمةً كبيرة بل المقعد هو الاهم. بالمختصر: الأحزاب التي فهمت هذه العقلية هي التي استفادت أكثر من هذا القانون. أما الأفراد الذين "ركبّوا" اللوائح من هنا ومن هناك سعياً وراء "حاصل" ولاستيفاء الشروط القانونية لخوض المعركة الانتخابية، فرأيناهم يسقطون وكان سقوطهم مدوّياً. 

حُرم اللبناني من نعمة التشطيب في هذا القانون وحرم من لذّة تركيب لائحة "على هواه" فجاءته النتيجة معلبّة سلفاً وعليه أن يبصم عليها مع صوت تفضيلي. كثر لم يتقبلوا هذا الأمر، حتى أنني وعلى باب مركز الاقتراع، كنت أسمع من يقول : "حبذا لو استطعت أن أشطب فلان" و "يا ليت بامكاننا اختيار ذاك المرشّح على تلك اللائحة فهو فعلاً يستحقّ". وكان البعض أيضاً يسأل عن اللوائح ومن سيعطيه لائحة لينتخب لأنه لم يعرف أن اللوائح باتت معدّة سلفاً... هذه التساؤلات وغيرها تركت اللبناني في حيرة من أمره حيال القانون وربما هذا ما يفسّر نسب الاقتراع المتدنية.

فقد صدم الجميع من نسب المشاركة التي لم تتخطَ ال49 % من المسجلين في لوائح الشطب في كل لبنان. صدمة يضاف اليها رقم مهول من 800 ألف شاب وصبية بلغوا السن القانونية للاقتراع فأين هم ؟  هؤلاء ، لو أرادوا لقلبوا النظام اللبناني برمّته... لكن للأسف بدا لنا بعد هذه الانتخابات أن الناس في مكان والشباب غالبية الشعب في مكان آخر. 

أما عن دور الاعلام في هذه الانتخابات : فحدّث ولا حرج. لم نر في الاعلام سوى من امتلأت جيوبهم بالدولارات أو من كان لهم نفوذاً يصرفونه على هذه الشاشة أو تلك... فيما انصرف معظم المستقلّين ومن ركبوا ركب "المجتمع المدني" الى الصرف على التسويق عبر وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي لأنها أقل كلفة ظنّاً منهم بإن كسب "اللايكات" و"الشير" سيجعلهم يكسبون أصواتاً في الصندوقة.  كل من ركّز على حملته الكترونياً ... حصدها الكترونياً... ومن عمل مع الناس عن قرب حصد نتيجة فعلية في الصندوق. لقد عرّى هذا القانون بعض الناس فحرمهم من نعمة التمثيل... استفاد منه الاقليّات في مناطق عديدة وانقذهم مذهبهم الطائفي على الهويّة.  

قالت الناس كلمتها في 6 أيار ولكن الأكثرية الصامتة... ظلّت صامتة ... لا يحق لها الكلام الا بعد 4 سنوات من اليوم. الى حين هذا الموعد نقول : لتبق الأعين شاخصةً على أزمة حكم أطلّت برأسها مع هذا الصباح الداكن... غداً تنتطلق معركة تحديد الأحجام وانعكاسها في الحكومة... غداً ينطلق السباق نحو قطاف الثمر... المهمّ أن يبقى البستان بمنأى عن الحريق.
